The Mid North Coast of New South Wales lies midway between Sydney and Brisbane, and it boasts a diverse landscape characterized by winding rivers that nourish verdant hinterlands and over 200 kilometers of unspoiled beaches. The largest hubs in the region are Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.
The Mid North Coast starts at Nelson Bay, and Port Stephens is one my ever-favorite getaways on the New South Wales coast, with wild dolphins, breathtaking coastal panorama at Tomaree Head or dreamy Zenith Beach.
The lower mid north coast is also called the Barrington Coast. It includes the Great Lakes, Manning Valley, Gloucester and the Barrington Tops plateau. Its central town is Forster.
Coffs Harbour is a very typical holiday retreat in one hand: the Big Banana Fun Park, the (slightly underwhelming) Big Banana itself and several bustling caravan parks, located close to idyllic beaches. On the other hand, nature lovers will fall for the Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve or the lively coral reefs of Solitary Islands Marine Park.
Further north, Port Macquarie offers another set of stunning beaches and coastal adventures, as well as the Koala Hospital or the lush hinterlands where you can cruise the Hastings River, indulging in local flavors at waterfront cafes and wineries.
